The UK has announced the formation of a Nuclear Industry Council, comprised of representatives of companies from each segment of the nuclear supply chain, Energy Live News reports.
The group will seek to help the supply chain adapt to new nuclear build, provide consultation to small and medium-sized firms hoping to bid for contracts in the supply chain, and develop a nuclear export strategy for the UK.
The announcement comes on the same day the Sellafield plant in West Cumbria announced it was hiring for 500 new jobs to assist with cleaning up the facility’s “most hazardous areas,” according to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the BBC reports. The plant, which is being decommissioned in preparation for new nuclear build, currently employs about 10,000 workers.
