Approval of coal-fired power plant in Chile overturned

An appeals court in Chile overturned the approval of the 50 MW Pirquenes coal-fired power plant, according to BNamericas.

The tribunal said that the approval from the environmental authority was illegal because it was made without seeing an environmental impact study (EIS), the article said. The tribunal asked developer South World Business to reapply for approval and submit an EIS.

The coal- and biomass-fired project is expected to take 24 months from the start of construction. Total investment was set at $82 million, the article said.
