The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission’s (CNSC) annual safety assessment found that Ontario Power Generation’s nuclear facilities continue to operate safely, according to the utility.
OPG’s Darlington station received a rating of “fully satisfactory,” the highest category, for the third year in a row. The four-unit station, located about 70 km east of Toronto, generates about 3,500 MW.
The 3,100 MW Pickering station on Lake Ontario east of Toronto was rated as “satisfactory.”
Both stations were evaluated in 14 individual safety and control areas. The CNSC report also documented the actions Canada’s nuclear industry took following the Fukushima accident in March 2011.
