Community solar energy projects planned

Clean Energy Collective (CEC) has been awarded six community-owned solar gardens in Colorado totaling 2.5 MW as part of Xcel (NYSE: XEL)’s Solar*Rewards Community program.

CEC will construct and maintain the solar arrays, known as solar gardens, throughout the state. The six projects are the 108 kW Jefferson County, two, 500 kW projects in Summit County, a 400 kW and 500 kW project in Denver County and a 500 kW project in Boulder County.

Community solar allows all utility customers the opportunity to use renewable energy. CEC established the first community-owned solar garden in 2010 near El Jebel, Colo. and has plans to open several others in Colorado, New Mexico and Minnesota in addition to the six sites under Xcel’s program.
