Force majeure request for Bruce nuclear power unit accepted

TransCanada Corp. (NYSE: TRP) said that Bruce Power’s force majeure claim to the Ontario Power Authority for Bruce A nuclear power Unit 2 was accepted.

Bruce Power will continue to receive the contracted price for power generated from the operating units at Bruce A after July 1, 2012.

A force majeure frees a company from liability if an unavoidable or natural catastrophe leaves them unable to fulfill their contractural obligations. An incident May 18 in the generator system at Unit 2 caused some damage and delayed synchronization of the unit to the power grid.
