Nuclear power plant cooling tower equipment upgrades to begin

Exelon Generation, a unit of Exelon Corp. (NYSE: EXC), will begin a maintenance project to upgrade equipment inside both cooling towers at the 2,300 MW Byron nuclear power plant in Illinois.

The 500-foot high towers cool river water used in the electricity-producing part of the plant. Work is expected to take a year and will happen during the station’s planned fall and spring refueling outages.
