New PPA signed for waste-to-energy plant in Hawaii

Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) and the city and county of Honolulu have reached a revised and expanded power purchase agreement for HECO to buy the output from the 46 MW Honolulu Program of Waste Energy Recovery (H-Power) waste-to-energy power plant.

The original PPA was signed in 1986, and the power plant has been generating electricity since 1990. A third boiler, combustion train and associated air emissions control equipment, turbine generator, cooling equipment and electrical interconnection equipment are currently under construction and are expected to increase capacity to 73 MW.
