Nuclear power plant in Brazil returns to service

Eletronuclear, a subsidiary of state-owned Eletrobras, (NYSE: EBR), said the 1,350 MW Angra 2 nuclear power plant is generating energy after a 29 day outage for refueling activities and periodic inspection and maintenance. The plant, which was taken offline on March 3, reached 100 percent power on April 2.
During the outage, one third of the nuclear fuel was reloaded.

Eletronuclear said along with the fuel reload, other technical work was completed, such as inspections and testing of steam generators, overhaul of a turbine, and the replacement of the shaft, rotor and engine of the reactor coolant pumps, among other work.

The next refueling outage for Angra 2 is scheduled for mid-2013.
