Hydroelectric project in Colombia delayed

Colombian state generator Isagen has delayed the start of its 80 MW Amoya hydroelectric project until late 2012 due to recent problems in the vicinity of the construction site, according to Business News Americas.

This is the second time the plant has been delayed. The company initially expected to have the project online before the end of 2011.

The company also provided details about the Cañafisto project which the firm submitted during Colombian energy and gas regulator Creg’s most recent power auction. Under current proposals, the Cañafisto project will have a capacity of 933 MW, the article said.

Another auction could be held by the Creg toward the end of 2012.

Isagen expects to invest 2tn pesos (US$1.15bn) through 2014, mainly in modernizing its existing facilities and new projects.
