Total installed wind power capacity in Mexico will reach some 12,000 MW by 2020, or 15 percent of the country’s electricity mix.
According to the Latin American Herald Tribune, the Mexican Wind Energy Association said that a study of the country’s wind energy sector indicates that a goal of 15 percent share of the total electricity mix by 2020 is feasible.
The wind sector is expected to create 45,000 jobs in the areas of components and supply of specialized services.
The study reportedly shows that Mexico has sites with conditions for installing at least 12,000 MW of wind capacity with a few adjustments to the current regulatory framework. To date, 1,000 MW of the proposed total has been installed, the article said.
