The Montana Public Service Commission Feb. 14 granted “pre-approval” of NorthWestern Energy’s proposed purchase of an $86 million wind-power project in Montana.
According to The Billings Gazette, the commission voted 3-2, essentially giving the go ahead for construction on the 40 MW Spion Kop wind farm to begin.
NorthWestern Energy sought approval for the project in June 2011.
The project will be built by Compass Wind and is expected to be complete by the end of 2012. NorthWestern will own and operate the plant.
