Solar energy project seeks certification

BrightSource Energy Inc. filed an Application for Certification with the California Energy Commission to develop three, 250 MW solar power plants on land owned by the Metropolitan Water District.

The projects, collectively known as the Rio Mesa project, will each use a solar field and 750-foot tall tower along with air-cooling instead of water. BrightSource’s mirrors are mounted on individual poles placed directly into the ground without concrete foundations.
