Nuclear power plant returns to service

Indiana Michigan Power, a unit of American Electric Power (AEP, NYSE: AEP), said the 1,036 MW Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 1 returned to service September 9 following an automatic shutdown of the main turbine that occurred on September 7.

An analysis of the cause of the turbine shutdown found the issue to be with electronic instrumentation used to monitor the turbine and not a failure of the turbine. AEP said all safety systems functioned appropriately and Cook’s 1,107 MW Unit 2 remained at full power during the Unit 1 shutdown.
