Solar Trust of America will convert the 500 MW first phase of the Blythe Solar Power Project in California from concentrated solar power (CSP) to photovoltaic (PV) technology. The company said improved market conditions for PV was the main reason behind the switch.
Due to the technology change, Solar Trust of America will be able to roll out construction of the Blythe plant in phases rather than 250 MW at a time as was planned with the CSP.
When the project is completed, it will have a nominal capacity of 1,000 MW.
