Salem nuclear units receive license extensions

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved PSEG Nuclear‘s request to extend the operating licenses of Salem Generating Station Units 1 and 2 for an additional 20 years. PSEG filed its license renewal request in August 2009.

Both units have a generating capacity of 1,175 MW and are Westinghouse four-loop pressurized water reactors.

Unit 1’s license was set to expire in 2016 and Unit 2’s in 2020. The reactors will now be licensed through 2036 and 2040, respectively.
