Caterpillar Inc. announces the introduction of the C27 diesel generator set, which meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Interim emissions standards. The package offers the latest in engine design technology for standby, prime and load management applications. The ratings for this 60 Hz package are 800 ekW (Standby) and 725 ekW (Prime), offering highly competitive service intervals, fuel consumption rates and power density.
Evolving on the attributes of the C27 diesel generator set with ACERT Technology and applying an electronically controlled air management system to lower the combustion temperature on the engine, the NOX output from the generator set is decreased. Thus the Tier 4 Interim emission standards are met without the need for aftertreatment.
Additional engine features include an ADEM A4 controller, Air-To-Air After Cooler cooling system and MEUI fuel system. The C27’s durable design provides added reliability, consistent performance and excellent fuel economy.
RHPS series regulators
RHPS series high flow pressure-reducing and back-pressure regulators are now available across the globe through authorized Swagelok sales and service centers.
RHPS series products are based on more than 20 years of engineering expertise for applications in the chemical/petrochemical, oil and gas, power, biopharmaceutical, semiconductor and alternative fuels industries. These regulators are constructed of 316L stainless steel for line sizes up to 4 in. and provide a variety of options.
Pressure-reducing regulators, including both spring-loaded and dome-loaded models, are designed for general industrial applications.
Back-pressure regulators are available in both spring-loaded and dome-loaded models and are designed for general industrial purposes.

Wright Tool Co. introduces new strike-free wrenches that are used on heavy-duty applications where striking-face box wrenches cannot be used and where cheater bars should not be used.
Wright Tool strike-free wrenches are specifically designed for use where false blows are not permitted. The wrenches also loosen and tighten large fasteners in confined areas where there is not enough room to swing a striking tool.
The U.S.-made line of strike-free wrenches is available in two- and three-foot handle sizes, with 12-point wrench openings ranging in 17 sizes from 1 inch to 2 inches in diameter. Chemical delivery system
Driven to improve chemical handling safety for customers, Ashland Hercules Water Technologies, a commercial unit of Ashland Inc., has introduced the Ultra-Serv SOLID chemical delivery system. The new system eliminates the hazards and concerns associated with transporting liquid chemicals within commercial, institutional and industrial facilities where workers or others must contend with potential exposure.
Ashland formulation scientists were able to transform the company’s PerforMax liquid water treatment chemistry into a solid form that is activated within the Ultra-Serv SOLID chemical delivery system. The new formulation coupled with the enclosed system improves safety, reduces chemical delivery costs, eliminates thousands of pounds of plastic from the waste stream, eliminates hundreds of hours of time associated with liquid chemical handling and reduces fuel consumption and associated carbon emissions.
IMI Sensors announces the availability of hazardous area-approved versions of the company’s Series 640 industrial vibration transmitters for monitoring motors and pumps at natural gas pipeline pumping stations. These rugged and reliable two-wire, loop powered, 4-20 mA vibration sensors are manufactured to meet specific natural gas industry design requirements, including certification in accordance with ATEX and CSA for use in hazardous areas.
Vibration monitoring of motors and pumps at natural gas pipeline pumping stations has proven effective for determining machinery health, planning maintenance intervals, reducing downtime and avoiding catastrophic loss. IMI’s Series 640 provides a 4-20 mA output signal that is proportional to the overall vibration level of the machine being monitored. Powered by a 12-30 VDC source, the output wire can be connected to any existing PLC, DCS and SCADA systems.
The Series 640 vibration sensors are enclosed in welded, hermetically sealed, stainless steel housings. Explosion-proof versions of these transmitters are also available. Sensors that offer hazardous area certifications are widely used on gas and oil well heads, supply lines, natural gas reciprocating engines, multi-stage gas compressors and other machinery operating in hazardous environments.
Larox Air Release/Vacuum Valve
The Air/Vacuum Valve automatically exhausts large volumes of air from the system while it is being filled with the slurry. When the contamination is being emptied, air displaces the fluid and re-enters the pipeline to equalize pressure. It prevents discharge of the medium to keep your work environment clean and safe.
When the system is filled and operating, the fluid lifts the ball until it closes the orifice. The orifice will remain closed until the system is emptied. Air may enter the valve and displace the fluid while the system is operating, but the internal pressure will keep the valve tightly shut. The valve will not re-open until the system pressure drops to near atmospheric pressure and the ball is no longer buoyant.
The valve is available in sizes between 2” and 8”. Working pressure standards are 150 up to 1500 psig for air release valves, and up to 240 psig for combination valves for use on slurries.

Oxidation Ovens for Carbon Fiber Processing
Harper International, has launched the next generation of custom Oxidation Ovens for the processing of carbon fiber available at 300mm to greater than 4000mm tow band widths. The addition of Oxidation Oven technology to Harper’s already industry-standard furnace technologies strengthens its portfolio as the leader in complete thermal processing solutions for critical materials industries such as carbon fiber.
As a key feature, Harper has developed proprietary atmospheric seals based on decades of experience in building systems for atmospherically controlled thermal processes.
These unique seals reduce fugitive emissions, increase the active volume of the oven, and offer reduced energy consumption over alternatives. The modular construction design has demonstrated a 90 percent reduction in labor versus similar field erection times into a full line pilot system (300mm).
For the customer, these and other technology advancements equal faster oxidation, improved velocity uniformity and velocity range capability, assurance of temperature uniformity throughout a variety of flow rates, and optimal control of the reaction for the customer’s product to ensure fiber quality. These improvements come in the form of clearly stated performance guarantees.
