Latin American wind power sector to gain global importance

Wind energy installations in Latin America will begin to contribute a greater share of the global wind power market, according to Spain’s Reve website.

The publication highlighted “encouraging developments” in Brazil, Mexico and Chile, which has led to an expected 19 GW of combined wind energy generation to be installed in the region by 2015.

This represents an increase of 17 GW on 2010, the publication said, adding that this figure was still under-representative of where many of the countries in the region could be given Latin America’s excellent wind resources.
