Xcel Energy’s decision to cancel a $400 million North Dakota wind farm amid concerns over the project’s impact on wildlife was met with opposition from the French company Xcel was partnering with.
Local news reports said enXco Inc. said it will fight Xcel over cancellation of the 150 MW Merricourt wind project. Xcel signed a project agreement with enXco in 2008.
Xcel said it would not comment further about the dispute due to its agreement with enXco.
Xcel on April 1 said it was dropping the project because of U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service concerns over the threat the turbines could cause to two endangered birds, the whooping crane and the piping plover.
