Canada wind 2010

Canada installed 690 MW of wind energy in 2010 and now ranks 9th in the world in installed capacity, according to the Global Wind Energy Council’s report, Global Wind Report 2010.

The installed capacity is valued at $1.7 billion in new investments. Currently, Canada’s total installed wind energy capacity is 4,285 MW, comprised of 2,570 wind turbines at 131 wind farms.

The top 10 countries for installed wind capacity are: China, U.S., India, Spain, Germany, France, the U.K., Italy, Canada and Sweden.

The report forecasts that Canada’s wind production will triple in the next five years and the total installed capacity in North America is expected to more than double to reach 94.2 GW.
