German renewable energy firm, SoWiTec, has requested permission to construct a power transmission line that will connect its proposed 102 MW Valle de los Vientos wind farm to Chile’s Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande (SING), the northern grid.
The company also wants to increase the number of turbines it initially specified, from 33 to 45, according to Business News Americas, which cites documents presented to the national environmental regulator, Conama.
The company’s investment in both the transmission connection and the additional turbines is expected to be in the region of $55m.
The Valle de los Vientos wind farm will be located approximately 10 km from the city of Calama, in II Region of northern Chile.
