18 August 2010 – Venezuela is getting its first ever wind farm, according to the country’s state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela (PDV).
As the country recovers from the shortages in electric power that occurred earlier this year, the construction of this new facility on the Paraguana peninsula is set to generate 30 MW during the six months of next year.
The wind farm is expected to produce up to 100 MW when it begins to operate at full capacity, says PDV.
The Venezuelan oil company added that it is in the process of importing 24 wind turbines from Spain in an effort to increase the renewable energy production in the country.
