20 April 2010– Westinghouse Electric Co. is restructuring its Research and Technology Unit (RTU) into three segments: R&T Strategy, Nuclear Energy Innovation Leadership (NEIL) hub and R&T Operations.
Carlos Leipner will be the director of the R&T Strategy group. The unit will coordinate company-wide technology strategy and provide business development and project management. Leipner previously served as assistant deployment director in Europe for Westinghouse Customer 1st.
The NEIL hub will focus on technology concepts and help them to reach commercialization by taking them through the verification, application formulation and refinement stages. John Goossen was appointed the director of the group. He was previously the director of Westinghouse Science and Technology.
The R&T Operations group will be run by Dr. Tom Congedo, which will provide technical expertise and facility capabilities as well as technology development. The unit will also provide capital and research facilities that support the NEIL hub and Westinghouse businesses, as well as the industry. Congedo, a Westinghouse Fellow Engineer, was manager of RTU’s Research and Development and Thermal, Fluid and Nuclear Engineering groups.
The RTU organization also is responsible for the development of technology strategic imperatives and delivery of technical results.
