wind loan guarantee

10 March 2010– The Department of Energy, through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, offered First Wind a conditional loan guarantee for $117 million to finance the construction of a 30 MW wind farm in Hawaii that will also have on-site storage.

The Kahuku Wind project will feature a dozen, 2.5 MW Clipper Liberty wind turbines and a battery storage system. The storage is expected to provide as much as 10 MW of power during periods of low wind speeds.

Construction on the Kahuku Wind project is expected to begin once it is approved by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission and the loan guarantee is in place.
