Areva acquires solar energy producer Ausra

8 February 2010– Areva acquired concentrated solar power (CSP) provider Ausra, a move that will help to launch Areva’s solar energy business. Terms were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in the next few months, subject to customary regulatory approval.

Areva said the deal will help it achieve its goal of being a world leader in CSP. The global market for CSP plants is expected to grow in the next decade by 20 percent and is expected to reach 20 GW installed by 2020.
Areva will use Ausra’s workers to lead the Global Solar unit, which will be operated out of Ausra’s headquarters in California.
