PV plant expected to shine in a week: FPL

13 October 2009– Florida Power & Light said they will power up one of the nation’s largest photovoltaic plants by October 20.

FPL said the DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Florida finished ahead of schedule and $22.2 million under budget. It will use more than 90,000 PV panels.

The company is also working to secure approvals to expand the solar plant to at least 150 MW.

DeSoto is one of three large-scale, renewable solar power plants FPL is building in Florida. The Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center is a 75 MW hybrid solar thermal plant that is scheduled for completion by 2010. The Space Coast Next Generation Solar Energy Center, located at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, is expected to add 10 MW of PV power and is also scheduled for completion by 2010.
