PSEG applies for license extensions for nuclear plants

18 August 2009– PSEG Nuclear submitted applications to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to extend the operating licenses of its 2,345 MW Salem and 1,211 MW Hope Creek nuclear plants by 20 years.

Salem Unit 1’s current license expires in 2016 while Unit 2 is up in 2020. Hope Creek’s operating license expires in 2026. The NRC is expected to spend 22 to 30 months reviewing PSEG’s application.
