Westinghouse gives GSE Systems nuclear simulator contract

30 July 2009– Westinghouse Electric Co. will give a multi-million dollar award to GSE Systems to build a simulation of its AP1000 nuclear power plant system. The simulator will be built based upon the company’s nuclear power plant design for domestic customers.

The award covers the initial phase of work that focuses on building simulation models for the AP1000 system. The models will help Westinghouse demonstrate the nuclear power plant design and control room human factors and will also be reusable from plant to plant. The company could hand out more awards to build plant-specific systems in the future.

At least 14 planned U.S. nuclear power plants are using the AP1000.
