Construction begins on 30 GW electricity storage flywheel device

13 July 2009– Power Tree Corp. said they have started building a 30 GW energy storage device designed to help implement the smart grid.

The flywheel-based storage unit is expected to be ready for commercial use by the end of 2009. It is expected to store up to 30 GW of electricity and discharge continuous megawatt-size power for hours, including renewable energy power from wind and solar resources.

Utilities can also place the devices throughout the generation and transmission system, helping to prevent brown and black outs during peak demand hours along the grid.
