Strategic Swiss/Italian wind partnership

26 June 2009 – Swiss BKW FMB Energy Limited and Fortore Energia SpA, a leading Italian company in wind power generation, have entered into a strategic partnership, whereby BKW has acquired a 33 per cent share in the new company, Fortore Wind.

According to BKW’s statement, the aim of the partnership is to build and operate wind farms with a total capacity of around 600 MW between now and 2016.

This partnership helps to consolidate BKW’s position among Swiss wind power producers.

The wind farms already implemented and operated by Fortore will be incorporated into the new company. They represent a total capacity of approximately 140 MW.

In addition, Fortore wind projects, which will be transferred to the partner company, will be jointly implemented and operated between now and 2016. These projects have a total capacity of around 465 MW

Fortore Wind is aiming to invest more than EUR1bn ($1.4bn) in implementing the planned wind power capacities up to 2016.

The new company still has to be approved by Italy’s competition authorities.
