ABB cables to strengthen Danish power grid

4 June 2009 – ABB has won an order from SEAS-NVE, a leading Danish energy company, to provide a cable solution to strengthen the existing transmission grid and enable the integration of more wind power from the Rødsand II offshore wind park, expected to be commissioned in late 2010.

ABB will supply, install and commission 116 km of underground cable and 56 km of submarine cable, both rated at 145 kV. The cable technology being deployed is designed to manage overload and has a double circuit option, which helps secure transmission even if the cable gets damaged. This also facilitates the transmission grid’s efficiency and flexibility.

The cable solution will contribute to fulfilling Denmark’s vision of renewable energy serving 30 per cent of the country’s energy consumption by 2020.
