EDF receives approval to acquire stake in Chinese coal fired power project

16 April 2009 – The EDF Group has received an approval from Chinese authorities to acquire a 35 per cent holding in a joint venture with local partners to operate two 600 MW units of a supercritical coal burning thermal power station in the province of Henan, China.

Chinese power producer China Datang and the municipality of Sanmenxia will own 60 per cent and 5 per cent respectively of the joint venture. The EDF Group’s investment amounts to around EUR35m ($46m).

EDF has said that the share holding is being acquired as part of the industrial co-operation agreement with China Datang in 2006 for the joint development of investment projects to operate and run electricity generating installations in China
