NRG to develop 500 MW of solar projects

23 February 2009 – NRG Energy Inc. plans to use technology from eSolar to develop solar power plants with a capacity of up to 500 MW at sites in California and the Southwest.

NRG will invest about $10 million for equity and associated development rights for three projects on sites in south central California and the Southwest U.S. It also plans a portfolio of power purchase agreements to develop, build, own and operate up to 11 eSolar modular solar generating units at these sites. eSolar is currently completing its first concentrating solar power plant in Southern California, which is a solar thermal power tower plant.
