Siemens to upgrade power plant controls

9 February 2009 – Siemens Energy’s Instrumentation and Electrical Business Unit won contracts from three power companies to install the Siemens Power Plant Automation T3000 (SPPA-T3000) system.

Siemens will update controls at power generation facilities run by the Arizona Public Service (APS), Granite Ridge Energy and Constellation Energy. Siemens recently announced the installation of the SPPA-T3000 at four other power plants in the U.S.

The SPPA-T3000 is a Web-based power plant instrumentation and control (I&C) system designed to implement power plant and turbine controls on one platform. The system can be integrated into existing IT systems independent of the original equipment manufacturer to provide real-time functionalities for operations, engineering, diagnostics, archiving, alarm and field devices.

Siemens will supply new systems for APS’s 1,000 MW West Phoenix Power Station, the 752-MW Granite Ridge power plant and Constellation’s 774 MW Hillabee Energy Center.
