Areva NP names new president, CEO

21 January 2009 – Michael W. Rencheck is the new president and CEO of Areva NP Inc., effective Jan. 26, 2009. Rencheck replaces Tom Christopher who will continue to support the company part-time as vice chairman of Areva NP Inc. through June 2009 to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.

Rencheck reports directly to Luc Oursel, CEO of Areva NP, with regional reporting to Jacques Besnainou, President of Areva Inc. Rencheck comes to Areva NP Inc. from American Electric Power (AEP) where he served most recently as senior vice president and chief nuclear officer of the Nuclear Generation Group. In this capacity, he was responsible for the nuclear operations of the Donald C. Cook nuclear plant in Michigan.

After joining AEP’s Donald C. Cook plant in 1998 as vice president of nuclear engineering, Rencheck held various positions during his tenure including senior vice president of generation engineering, projects and field Services; senior vice president of engineering, technical and environmental services; and president of AEP ProServ, a wholly owned engineering and field services subsidiary.

Prior to joining AEP, Rencheck worked for Florida Power Corp. serving as director of nuclear engineering and projects for Crystal River Nuclear Station. Earlier in his career, Rencheck worked at Public Service Electric & Gas Co. Salem Nuclear Station as director of engineering and Duquesne Light Co.’s Beaver Valley Power Station.
