Greenbank/Doosan partnership set to reduce emissions at UK’s Drax coal plant

16 January 2009 – UK engineering firm Greenbank Group has secured a sub-contract order from Doosan Babcock Energy Ltd for work on Drax Power Station – the biggest coal fired generating plant in the UK.

Greenbank will be supplying the biomass injection equipment and support systems for the upgrade with work due to start immediately.

Upon completion, the new biomass co-firing facility will reduce Drax Power Station’s emissions of CO2 by over two and a half million tonnes per annum supporting Drax’s ongoing commitment to tackling climate change.

Installation of the direct injection systems is scheduled for completion towards the end of 2009.

This new facility, alongside the existing co-firing capability at Drax Power Station, will be the largest of its type in the world, providing a total of 500 MW of renewable energy – the equivalent output to over 600 wind turbines.
