Nuclear power plant license bids advance

Entergy and NuStart Energy Development submitted a combined construction and operating license (COL) application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a potential new nuclear unit in Mississippi, while Duke Energy received word from the NRC that its COL application for the proposed William States Lee III Nuclear Station was approved and docketed for the next stage of review. The Lee Nuclear COL application will now enter the detailed NRC review process as the agency prepares an environmental impact statement and safety evaluation report.

Entergy has not yet decided to build a nuclear reactor. The company is seeking approval and a license in order to have the option to build a new unit adjacent to its existing Grand Gulf Nuclear Station.
