Portugal’s REN to invest in T&D upgrades

13 February 2008 – REN Redes Energeticas Nacionais said it plans to invest €27m ($39m) in building a new power sub-station and €19m on renovating five electricity lines and building four new ones in the Braganca region of northern Portugal.

Thomson Financial reports that, in a statement, REN said the construction of the sub-station will commence in the third quarter of 2008 and will strengthen the interconnection capacity with Spain and also the collection of energy produced from the reinforced capacity at the Picote and Bemposta hydroelectric plants.

The renovation and construction of the electricity lines will commence in the first half of 2008 and will end in early 2011, the company added.
