MMC Energy pays $31m for gas-fired turbines

29 January 2008 — MMC Energy, Inc. is buying two LM-6000 PC Sprint natural gas-fired turbines from GE Packaged Power Inc. for around $31 million. The turbines will be used in MMC Energy’s Chula Vista Energy Upgrade Project, a 100 MW natural gas-fired power plant in San Diego County, Calif.

The turbines will allow the company to boost capacity at the Chula Vista site, which currently is 44 MW. MMC announced last October that the California Energy Commission had accepted MMC’s application for certification, which formally began the site certification process. The company said it expects to receive its permit during the fourth quarter of 2008.
