Vectren asks to balance wind with gas-fired peaker

22 January 2008 — Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana, Inc. asked Indiana regulators for approval to build a 100 MW natural-gas-fired peaking unit. The unit would replace a similarly-sized purchase power agreement that expires in 2009. The company also said that while wind power has recently been added to its electric generation portfolio, reliability is a “critical component in meeting customer demand.”

Vectren said its request to build a 100 MW natural gas fired peaking unit is designed for a “quick, clean response” when called upon to meet customer demand.
