EGAT pushes ahead with coal-fired power plants

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand is going forward with plans to build four new coal-fired power plants to increase its generating capacity by 3,200 MW. Under Thailand’s Energy Ministry’s 15-year Power Development Plan, the new coal-fired plants would come online in 2014-15, to be followed by nuclear powered plants in 2020-21. Construction is projected to begin early next year.
