Mild weather keeps demand for natural gas-generated electricity down despite overall increase in electricity demand

Electricity demand in the U.S. rose 5.1% last week compared to same week last year, the Edison Electric Institute reported Wednesday. Despite the increase in electricity demand, cooler weather last week in the Northeast and Midwest curbed the demand for natural gas to generate electricity for air conditioning, said Kent Bayazitoglu, the director of market analytics for Gelber Corp.
