11 June 2007 – AREVA T&D is actively increasing its presence in China’s power market, after signing an agreement to form a joint venture with Sunten Electric Company Limited and establishing a partnership with the China Electric Power Research Institute (C-EPRI).
Sunten Electric is a leading manufacturer of distribution transformers, and through the 50:50 joint venture, which is subject to approval by Chinese authorities AREVA T&D will become the main supplier of dry-type transformers in the country.
The C-EPRI is a leading organization that specializes in electrical technologies. Under the agreement, C-EPRI will be the official licensee of AREVA T&D’s H400 high voltage current thyristor valves in China, and will enable AREVA T&D to enter the country’s rapidly growing domestic HVDC market.
China’s transmission and distribution sector represents 24 per cent of the world market, and demand for T&D equipment is growing strongly.
These latest deals for AREVA T&D follow on from the opening of its new gas-insulated switchgear factory in Suzhou earlier this year.
