Airtricity opens 124 MW Forest Creek Wind Farm in West Texas

31 May 2007 — Airtricity North America has officially opened its 124 MW wind farm at Forest Creek, West Texas. The facility will generate enough electricity to power more than 35,000 homes and avoid the emission of 225,000 tons of greenhouse gases. TXU Wholesale will purchase the electricity generated by the wind farm, which entered commercial operation in March 2007.

Airtricity’s other Texas-based wind farms under construction include the 126 MW Champion Wind Farm and the 90 MW Sand Bluff Wind Farm. When completed, the company will generate more than 550 MW in the state. Approximately 1,000 MW of new wind capacity is expected to be installed in Texas in 2007, which would be a record annual increase.

Forest Creek Wind Farm will provide the equivalent of 10 full time jobs during its operation over the next 25 years.
