Gulf Power Company selects Black & Veatch

7 May 2007 — Black & Veatch has been selected by Gulf Power Company to provide detailed engineering, as well as procurement and construction support for the addition of a CT-121 wet flue gas desulfurization system (scrubber) at Plant Crist Station in Pensacola, Fla.

A combined scrubber is being added for the four coal-fired electric generating units at Plant Crist. The sizes of the Plant Crist units are 75-megawatt (MW) Unit 4; 75-MW Unit 5; 320-MW Unit 6; and 500-MW Unit 7. The new scrubber system at Plant Crist will further enhance air quality in the region by removing sulfur dioxides, fine particulates and oxidized mercury emissions.

Black & Veatch was selected to do the conceptual engineering design of the scrubber project in 2006. The scrubber installation phase is expected to be completed by the fall of 2009.
