Edison Mission Group orders Mitsubishi wind turbines totaling 398 Megawatts

2 May 2007 — Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MPS) has been awarded a contract to supply up to 398 megawatts (MW) of wind generating capacity to Edison Mission Group (EMG). The new order follows EMG’s 2005 purchase of Mitsubishi wind turbines totaling 120MW for its San Juan Mesa project that is in commercial operation in New Mexico, and a 2006 purchase of 80MW of turbines for a new project anticipated for development in Texas.

The current contract calls for 166 Mitsubishi MWT95 2.4MW wind turbines to be delivered in 2008-2009. Mitsubishi says that the MWT95/2.4 is their highest-output production turbine, featuring airfoil and blade design, as well as “real-time, self-sensing” blade pitch and nacelle yaw control. EMG’s purchase raises the fleet complement of MWT95/2.4 turbines installed or on-order worldwide to 1,138MW.
