FLSmidth completes ash handling contract for Westar Energy

9 March 2007 — The Pneumatic Transport Department of FLSmidth Inc. recently completed a contract with Westar Energy for the design and supply of the ash handling system for Jeffrey Energy Center in St. Mary’s, Kansas.

FLSmidth’s airslide to fuller-kinyon pump (A2P) system uses airslide conveyors to continuously remove fly ash from the Unit 1 precipitator hoppers and Fuller-Kinyon pumps for continuous pneumatic transport of the ash to an existing ash storage silo. The system installation was completed and placed into operation in October 2006.

FLSmidth’s scope of supply included the complete Airslide conveyor matrix, FK-Pumps, process control valves, air supplies, piping, fittings and mechanical and electrical engineering support services.

Jeffrey Energy Center has three coal fired power generation units that together produce 2,400 MW of electricity.
