Scottish & Southern awards Powerteam £3m contract win

5 July 2006 – Powerteam Electrical Services, the Belfast-based high voltage electrical engineering company, has been awarded two separate contracts worth over £3m ($5.5m) with utility giant Scottish & Southern Energy.

Powerteam will refurbish two 132kV substations in Dundee and Dorset. The Dundee contract, valued at £2.7m, is the largest Powerteam has won in Great Britain.

Alastair Dawson, Powerteam Commercial Manager, welcomed the new contract. “In recent months we have won over GBP4million in contracts with ESB and private clients in Northern Ireland. We have worked hard to raise Powerteam’s profile as a quality, value for money contractor and have developed our business portfolio in Great Britain. We are very pleased to have won these contracts in the face of stiff competition from established companies and this win follows on from recent work carried out for Scottish and Southern Energy in Scotland.”

Both projects involve Powerteam designing the high voltage electrical solution together with the procurement, installation and commissioning of transformers and circuit breakers. The Dundee project also includes a significant element of civil engineering work, which Powerteam will oversee.

Commenting on the contract, Design Group Manager North, Distribution Major Projects, Landel Johnston, Scottish and Southern Energy said: “We are investing in our networks in areas that have large numbers of customers, refurbishing two of our key substations. Powerteam successfully met our project requirements in terms of expertise, capacity, quality, value and delivery and we are delighted to be working with them once again.”
