Industrial Air Compressors

Sullair Corp. introduced a new series of air compressors: The Sullair 3000, Sullair 3700 and Sullair 4500. These 40, 50 and 60 horsepower models are designed for point-of-use facility installations. The Sullair 3700 Series compressors are more compact, cost and energy efficient, serviceable, and powerful – and yet quieter – than most other 40, 50 and 60 horsepower compressors. Sullair engineered this series of compressors to make service and routine maintenance faster, simpler and more efficient, minimizing production downtime and creating a cleaner, safer work environment. All standard compressor maintenance can be performed from one side of the machine, and the compressor’s fluid level can be checked without opening the doors. The Series also features a fully sealed environmental protection pan to capture spills that may occur during servicing. The new compressors use less energy than most equivalent models. They are compact enough to fit through a standard 36-inch door, and operate at a low level of 68 dba.

Filter Bags

Eaton has introduced PROGAF Filter Bags, which use an advanced bag filtration system to take advantage of all the systems’ benefits – including lower initial cost and easier, less expensive disposal of used filtration media. PROGAF Filter Bags combine extended service life with extreme filtration efficiency ratings of up to 99.98 percent. The PROGAF Filter Bag uses unique multi-layer construction that provides a progressive filtration mechanism that traps unwanted particles throughout the depth of the media to give PROGAF Filter Bags their extremely high particle retention capabilities. The 100 percent polypropylene construction provides the benefits of a clean, chemically resistant and silicone free material used to manufacture an economical, self-contained and easy to dispose of filter bag. PROGAF Filter Bags feature all welded construction. There are no sewn seams to permit bypass of the process media. Eaton’s unique welding process produces a strong, flexible welded seam that allows the bag to fit more effectively into the filter housing. Every PROGAF Filter Bag comes standard with the patented SENTINEL Ring Seal Collar. This collar provides a positive, self-energized seal between the filter housing and the PROGAF Filter Bag to help eliminate filtration bypass.

Braden Manufacturing LLC has developed a static cartridge filter for gas turbines. The Braden SC (static cartridge) dual stage filter is intended to be a direct replacement for OEM filter cartridges, primarily for aero derivative gas turbines, including LM2500, LM5000 and LM6000, and large frame turbines. The new filter cartridges have an inner prefilter and outer primary element that, when combined, provide improved filtration. The prefilter employs a depth loading non-woven polyester liner. The final filter is available in several media choices to suit environmental conditions. A 360 degree seamless gasket provides proper sealing. ASHRAE 52.1 test results indicate reduced initial pressure drop, high average dust spot efficiency and high dust holding capacity.

Wind Turbine Gearbox Bearings

New SKF high-capacity cylindrical roller bearings for wind turbine gearboxes have been uniquely engineered to promote longer gearbox service life and optimized performance. Their innovative cage design and other special features offer enhanced reliability. These bearings can accommodate up to three more rollers (depending on dimension series and size) than standard cylindrical roller bearings usually specified for wind turbine gearboxes. This increases the bearings’ and gearbox’s load-carrying capacity and reliability. Their design, including a low cross-section cage, virtually eliminates the risk of damage by roller-to-roller smearing, which is a common failure mode in bearings typically specified for wind turbine gearbox applications. The cage design increases lubrication by allowing room for oil passage. The inner ring shoulder-guided cage particularly supports good rolling behavior, especially in low load conditions, reducing the risk of cage slip. Optimized cross-sections of the rings and rollers significantly minimize the potential for fretting corrosion, ring creep and flange fracture.

Perma Pure recently introduced it new GASS-2040 gas analysis sampling system for continuous emissions monitoring. The system uses Perma Pure’s proprietary Nafion technology to remove acid mists, coalescent liquids, water and particulates without altering the concentrations of analyte gases. A NEMA 4x stainless steel enclosure and integral stack mounting capability improve accuracy and eliminate heated sample lines. The unit connects directly to the probe and dries the sample completely before transporting it to the ground. Water-soluble analyte gases are protected from loss through dissolution in condensate, and a much lower dew point is achieved than with chiller/condenser technologies. Drying is a continuous, self-generating process and no routine maintenance is required.

Emerson Process Management has introduced a special configuration of the Rosemount Analytical CAT 100 continuous gas analyzer transmitter to meet all of the measurement requirements for hydrogen-cooled turbine generators in electrical power plants. The online thermal conductivity TCD analyzer is typically set up with three measuring ranges. The first and primary range (80 percent to 100 percent H2) is to monitor the hydrogen purity during normal operation; the second (0 percent to 100 percent H2) and third (0 percent to 100 percent CO2) measuring ranges allow safe opening of the turbines for maintenance. Online gas analysis is used to maintain a high concentration of hydrogen coolant to ensure cooling efficiency and maintain safe conditions. During normal operation, the hydrogen purity is monitored in an 80 percent to 100 percent H2 range (with air as background gas) to expose air leaks or hydrogen supply problems.
