TXU revives “mothballed” units to meet demand

17 May 2006 — TXU Corp. has brought four gas-fired units back online, according to Reuters, with a total of 1,480 MW added to help with summer demand.

Three units at the Valley power station provided 1,115 MW to the grid and the North Lake 3 unit in Dallas county added 365 MW, Tom Klceckner, a spokesman for TXU, told Reuters.

High natural gas prices shut the units down in 2004. As temperatures rise and air-conditioning demand goes up, TXU has brought these “mothballed” 1960s-era generators back to life, the news agency reported.
