Voith Siemens to equip China’s latest hydropower development

24 March 2006 – Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation is to supply equipment to a new hydropower plant in the Chongquing province of China after it was awarded a contract worth up to €51m ($61m).

Under the terms of the contract, Voith Siemens’ division in Shanghai will supply four vertical Kaplan turbines, each with an output of 128 MW, to the Caojie hydropower project.

Chongquing Shipping Construction & Development Company, the project developer, contracted Voith Siemens with the aim of commissioning the project by 2010.

Situated on the Jialing River, the Caojie hydropower station integrates electricity generation and irrigation for local agriculture and industry.

To optimize transport conditions for the turbine runners, which have a diameter of 9.5 metres, Chongquing Shipping Construction & Development Company will build a harbour near the construction site.
